Why Experience Silence?

Hello Reader,

Since announcing that I'm running a silent retreat with Amy Rogers in just over a week, a lot of inner questions have arisen. The usual stuff, rearing back up in thoughts; "why would anyone want to do what you offer?" "Why would anyone pay you to be silent?" "Why not just let Amy run it on her own?" "You won't fill it." "You're not good enough."

That kind of thing.

And what I notice is that these thoughts are free to arise and yet are not paid much attention to. They're there. They create feelings in the body. And they pass. They arise in the silence of my Being. And the silence of my Being is not impacted by them. Which is kinda cool to see because that silence is Me.

It's the silence in which all 'things' whether thoughts, sounds, sights, feelings, tastes or smells are known. It's the silence in which the body is known. And even the feeling of being 'me' here and now, is known.

But how often do we become aware of that silence; that space if you like; the field of awareness, consciousness, Being, God. Whatever you want to call 'it'.

That which is not even an 'it' because that would make it a thing too.

The only way I know to know 'it', is to bring conscious awareness to 'it'.

And how does one do that?

Well, you stop long enough to notice 'it'!

But we don't generally do that because what drives the show, and has always done so, is thought, and attention on that...which always keeps us busy.

Have you noticed that?

There is always something to be done, somewhere to get, or something to have, that we don't already have.

And it will always be like that unless you become aware of this invisible driver (which is always thought when you look at it, however 'real' or compelling it may seem).

And so that's why silence; why Amy and I wanted to create a space to notice.

Not to change.

Nor to fix.

Not to control.

But simply to notice.

And to shift that noticing on to what notices; to what knows of all of it.

Why? Because that's the source of it all. Where new perspectives come from; where insights arise; where ease, peace and freedom are experienced.

If you're curious and you'd like space to notice what's always present but rarely recognised, then we have three spaces left on our silent retreat. It starts on Friday 2nd October and we'll finish on Sunday 4th October. But with any luck, that shift of attention will be remain with everyone, long after we part company.

Just hit reply for more details.

Much love,

Vicki
