Hello Reader, In the last week I've got clearer about something, which is that the intelligence that 'runs' the human system is faaaaar more intelligent that any robot or computer could ever be. It started with reading more of one of the books I'm currently reading; Ultra Processed People. In one part the author talks (and I paraphrase) about how the body's energy requirements are set; all bodies burn the same number of calories whether sitting at a desk all day or walking 10 miles. If we are active the body compensates by using less energy on other things so that the overall energy expenditure stays the same. When active, less energy is sent to routine non-essential bodily processes, reducing the energy usage on the immune, endocrine, reproductive and stress systems. This gives these functions a rest which appears to restore them to a healthier level of function. Hence explaining why exercise is beneficial to the body, not perhaps, in the way we had thought. There is, of course, a lot more explanation in the book but this new understanding, taken from multiple research papers, blew my mind. It was another example of how incredibly intelligent the body is and how 'we' with our supposed 'knowledge' about the body, thinks we know best. Once again, it points to rest being crucial to the body's optimal functioning. Yet how many of us believe that if we rest we're in some way lazy and that we should be doing something all the time? It's something we challenge and explore in my monthly membership community. The book has really got me thinking about AI too. This week I read a post on Facebook from a highly paid coach about his programming of an AI to 'be him'. And how he had used it to review his coaching conversations to point out his mistakes and make him a 'better' coach. On one hand, how cool is that? You can teach an AI to be an incredible coach and then use it to coach yourself on how to be 'better'. But at the same time alarm bells were ringing for me. What is this continual obsession with being a 'better' more 'perfect' human? The constant seeking for more is driven by the human identity which is nothing but a collection of other people's, society's and culture's, ideas and beliefs. There is never an end to the 'more' desire of the human mind. I saw a long time ago that the human will never be 'perfect', and nothing will ever be 'enough' according to it. And why would it want to be? What if we are 'perfect' in our imperfections, just as we are? Because we are not 'just' human. We are not just the body. If we were, when the body died, 'we' would still be here. But when the body dies, although the body is still present, something has gone. That something is our true nature; the invisible aspect of our being. Although we appear as this human form (as outlined above) there is something way more intelligent that the human, running the form. It doesn't take much looking to see this to be true. And I'm far more interested in that than anything else. In my coaching conversations it's that which is present, not 'me' with my ideas and beliefs and conditioning. And in my view, that is way more effective than any AI could be at knowing exactly what to say, and when. I trust that fully. So no AI will be writing my newsletters, Facebook posts or anything else and it certainly won't be informing my coaching. I'll leave that to the intelligence of life. That's not to say I don't use AI but I use it as a way of drawing out what's already known, beneath the layers of conditioning, ideas and beliefs. The human body is truly magnificent. What if for just a moment you looked to see if this were true? Notice all the things that it is doing, without you having a clue how! Thank goodness 'we' are not in control of the body and it's intricate functioning. I'll leave you with that to ponder! Wishing you a wonderful week. Much love, Vicki Upcoming eventsMonthly Topsham, Devon MeetupWe meet on the last Monday of every month to explore living from the 'heart' rather than the 'head', what's true and other such topics.
